A collection of Philly show flyers put together by James Lewes – I hope he doesn’t mind me putting this up – I’ve keep it the way it was from the early 2000’s web design straight from the cd-rom. You can navigate to either the clubs or the bands alphabetically by first letter on the left.
Here is the intro from James:
Welcome to The Rake online Flyers exhibit. Most of these
hung between 1979 and 1990. This should not be seen as an exhaustive set of
flyers. Rather it reflects the eclectic and aesthetic tastes of a number of
people, including cosmic Jackie, Albert Dagit, Helen and James Lewes, Todd Kimmel, Linda McGothigan, Elizabeth and Alan Moersh; as well as the various band members who pasted the flyers together or club/gallery owners and staffs who had commissioned the flyers in the first place.
While most of these were unsigned, and intended as momentary ephemera and advertising, the site includes posters made by and for Very Tall Todd and his Mambo Movers, Matt Morello, Joe Duffy and More Fiends.
I invite you to include any comments and reminiscencies you may have of the various punk, new wave, indie, hard core and grunge scenes that flourished across the United States and Europe in the late 1970s and 80s. If you want to contribute images of flyers in your collection feel free to do so.
