NYC’s False Prophets live from the Kennel Club in 86. For New York bands in the late 8O’s I personally was a bigger fan of the weirdo, more experimental bands like the Prophets, A.P.P.L.E. and my favorite Alice Donut.
This show was after their 2nd album Implosion was out but it seems like a good mix off that album and their self titled 1st LP.
Update: I was poking around the Web, ego-surfing a bit, and found this recording of my old band from 1986. I don’t remember this show specifically, but Philly was a good town for us.
There are three non-album songs here.
2 is an instrumental I wrote called “Black Ice” & recorded a few years later with Fun No Fun, a more Dolls/Heartbreakers-style NYC rock’n’roll band.
6, “Intended Victims,” is from around 1984. I think it came from our original guitarist wanting to do something more “arena rock.” I tried playing synth bass on this once and it didn’t seem to go over very well.
8 is “Vertigo.” I wrote the music on guitar. It wound up an outtake from Implosion.
This show is version #2 of the band, the two-guitar one. The first album was version #1, which recorded the first album in 1984. Most of the songs on Implosion were written in 1984-85, but version #2 recorded it, in 1987. I had nothing to do with anything after that until the bunch of reunion gigs we did in the ’00s, including one of the final shows at CBGB.
I don’t mind you posting this, glad I found it, but I hope the sound quality is better than it is on my laptop speakers!
